For my first trick, I'll report on a project I'm wrapping up as well as a project I'm just starting. Wheeee!
Joel Schonbrunn commissioned me to embroider ten favors for the Dread Ship Black Rose. These favors will go to some of his shipmates, with the possibility of more ordered in the future. I transferred the pattern onto black canvas using Saral chalk paper, and stem-stitched over it with white DMC floss. This being the first project I've used the paper on, I have to say I'm a fan. Baccus Kaloethes was kind enough to sew them all together since sewing and I just don't jive.

I will deliver the ten favors to Joel this Saturday at October Crown. And since it's a commission, that means I get PAID. Now that's some fun stuff.
Speaking of which, I have started a *tiny* embroidery shop called . . well, Sinister Stitches. That name gets around a lot over here. I'm working on creating a store stock of small, SCA-oriented hand-embroidered items like patches, buttons, needlerolls, etc., as well as being open for more commissions like these favors. If you don't abhor Facebook, run a search for Sinister Stitches and it should pop up. As an incentive, you'll find pictures of my first completed commission already up, a lovely haversack commissioned by Ghislaine for Santiago.
Moving on. One project I'm just gearing up is a cuffs and collar set for a shirt for Vyncent in exchange for some garb. He has requested the embellishment depicted in this painting of a finely-attired Italian gentleman. Thankfully the website has some pretty powerful zoom capabilities, and I was able to zoom in enough to see the pattern, which although not clear, gave me enough information to cull a pattern for the collar. Take a look:
My next step is to embroider a test piece on some fine linen with long-armed cross-stitch in red silk and an outline in gold japanese thread. The kind and immensely talented Iulitta has agreed to meet with me this Saturday to help me choose the correct size and to provide some tip on working with the stuff, since I've never used it before.
And that's it for the moment. Catch you later! - K

Love the skull design!!
ReplyDeleteThanks! I finally met the designer of the original design at Crown this last weekend; had to explain that while I loved it, I had to tweak it for embroidery purposes.
